Celebrating Every Achievement
In our busy lives, it's so easy to overlook the significance of daily accomplishments. Whether it's smashing it at your chosen career, nurturing and providing for your loved ones, pursuing personal passions and projects, or simply making it through a challenging day, every achievement is worthy of recognition. At Velvet Sugar Studios, I believe that acknowledging these moments helps us all gain a deeper, more heartfelt appreciation of ourselves and reinforces the strength that resides within every woman.

Encouraging Empowerment Through Action
This year's International Women’s Day theme, "Accelerate Action," emphasises the urgency of advancing gender equality. So let's take active steps towards making this happen by committing to supporting and uplifting one another. No idea where to start? Here are some ideas:
Celebrate Each Other: Acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of women in your life. This can be as easy as making a conscious effort to compliment each other. My bestie and I are constantly 'pebbling' each other (which is a term coined by the behaviour of penguins, who gift pretty stones to their favourites. Us humans seem to have adopted the sending of memes and reels, as our form of pebbling our favourites). While these are short little moments of love and adoration, knowing that you are seen, supported and appreciated means everything.
Invest in Self-Care: Find and most importantly, DO activities that promote your own well-being and self-love. This doesn’t have to mean emptying your bank account. It could be as simple as running a bath, turning music on and asking to have an hour to yourself. It could be a walk along the seafront to breathe in that sea air that you crave or it could be making space to read that book that has been a coaster for months. Self love and care is not selfish. It is the foundation to everything!
Explore New Avenues: Trying something new can be a bit scary at first, but new challenges allow us to grow in all sorts of ways. You could try a new hobby or dive back into one you used to love. You could join a new walking or running group. You could find a local online group that brings women of a similar age or location together for friendship, support and new experiences. Or if you've been on the fence about a new career or writing that book, what are you waiting for? The perfect time is now.
Support Women's Initiatives: Taking an active part in and contributing to organisations and events that promote women's empowerment is the greatest way to keep the fight for space and equality moving. There are many online groups that allow women to rally together, help us to unlearn lots of outdated behaviours and truly see the strength and power we hold. They are awesome places to start, as you get to chat with new people and you can then jump into local events and help support local women to empower themselves and those women in their lives.
Embracing Self-Love and Empowerment Photography
Self-love is the foundation of empowerment and giving yourself the time and space to see yourself in the light of celebration is a truly transformative experience.
